MASCORRO
Jose Natividad Mascorro, known affectionately to his family as "Nati" or "Jose the Great", was born December 22, 1927 in Laredo, Texas, to Mercurio Mascorro Sr. and Josefa as the 7th of 14 children. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, strengthened by his Catholic faith, he passed peacefully surrounded by his immediate family on June 25th, 2014. Married on July 6, 1956 to Enriqueta Valadez of Del Rio, Texas, Jose began raising his family which he prized above all else. He graduated from St. Joseph's Academy High School in Laredo and went on to receive an Architectural Engineering degree from Texas A&M University -Class of '51 - WHOOP! He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1952. After honorably serving his country as a civil engineer he exited active duty to begin his professional career as a licensed architect working with several private firms in San Antonio. Jose worked on numerous designs for commercial and residential buildings. During his tenure at Phelps Jr. & Simmons he assisted with designs for Hemisfair Park and the Methodist Hospital San Antonio. In August 1968, Jose accepted the position of Chief Architect at Lackland Air Force Base beginning his civil service career that spanned over twenty-five years. After working for various Air Force civil engineering agencies across multiple Installations, Jose retired from Laughlin AFB in 1994. Survived by his children and their spouses Laura E. Mascorro-Garza and Steven, Adriana Mascorro-Rodriguez and Richard, Edward Mascorro and Dr. Nora, and Jose Carlos Mascorro and Jana, all of whom achieved degrees in higher education as a result of the guidance, assistance and efforts of both loving parents. Grandchildren include Julia, David, Daniel, Marissa, Jamee, Alex, Zachary and Madison. Dad - you touched many people throughout your life, we all deeply thank you and are much better people for knowing and loving you. Dad you will be greatly missed! Visitation will begin Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
