Dr. Howard W. Dickmann 
(August 6, 1919 - April 29, 2014)

Dr. Howard W. Dickmann, 94, departed this life on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Laclede Groves Care Center in Webster Groves, MO.

Dr. Dickmann was born in rural Perry County, Missouri on August 6, 1919, to the late K. R. and Martha (Knoll) Dickmann.  He attended the Lutheran Grade School in Perryville, and graduated from Perryville High School in 1937.  After attending the University of Missouri from 1937 – 1939, he went to Texas A & M University where he earned the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1943.  He was united in marriage with Susan M. Bredall on October 8, 1944, in Perryville.  Dr. Dickmann served for two years in the Army Veterinary Corps during World War II and was stationed at Fort Devens in Massachusetts.  He attained the rank of Captain and received his honorable discharge in August of 1947.  He returned to Perryville where he established Dickmann Animal Hospital and practiced veterinary medicine for 43 years.  He enjoyed travel, especially by car, and during his lifetime was able to visit all 50 states, Mexico and Canada.

Dr. Dickmann was a member of the Perryville Lions Club and the Moonier-Reddick Post of the American Legion for 63 years.  He also held lifetime memberships in the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association and the Southeast Missouri Veterinary Medical Association.

Surviving him are his wife, Susan, who resides in Webster Groves, MO; his daughter Janice Yamnitz and husband Michael of Owensville, MO; his son John B. Dickmann and wife Rachel of Fenton, MO; grandchildren: Dr. Lisa Huettel and husband Dr. Scott Huettel of Durham, NC; Laura Guenthner and husband David of Bentonville, AR; William B. Gresham IV and wife Annaliese of Durham, NC; Alex Dickmann of Fenton, MO; and Erik Dickmann of Fenton, MO; great grandchildren: Elissa and Nicholas Huettel of Durham, NC; Ava, Owen and Cannon Guenthner of Bentonville, AR; and Liam, Findlay and Sebastian Gresham of Durham, NC.

Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday, May, 4 2014, and from 6:30-9:30 am Monday, May 5, 2014 at Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville, MO.   American Legion Post 133 Wake at 6:30 pm Sunday.   A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, preceded by visitation at 10 am.

The Family requests that any memorials be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School in Perryville.
