MEMPHIS — D.C. Messick Jr., 84, of Memphis died Sunday, March 23, 2014.Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First United
Methodist Church in Memphis with the Rev. Gerald Powley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Peppers Family Funeral Home in Memphis.
D.C. Messick Jr. was born Dec. 21, 1929, to D.C. Messick Sr. and Marie Moore Messick. He attended grammar school in Newlin and graduated from Estelline High School in 1946. D.C. went on to attend Texas A&M University and received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1950.
On Sept. 9, 1952, D.C. married Wanda Lou Collyer Messick in Kirkland. He served in the Army and served his country during the Korean War. Mr. Messick was a member of First United Methodist Church in Memphis. He also was a member of Memphis Lions Club, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. D.C. was a member of the Masonic Lodge and recently receiving a 50-year membership pin.
He owned and operated Messick Equipment Co. in Memphis for 18 years, and enjoyed farming for several years after that.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melinda Mithlo; and an infant sister, Elizabeth Messick.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Messick of Memphis; a son, Mark Messick and wife Beth of Amarillo; a daughter, Cheryl Graves and husband Marvin of Missouri City; five grandchildren, Chris Murdock and wife Brooke of Memphis, Chance Murdock of Memphis, Jeramy Graves of Missouri City, Erica Rice and husband Jared of Amarillo and Josh Messick of New York City; and seven great-grandchildren.
