Gary Allen Gibbs
September 13, 1960 - February 12, 2014
Gary Allen Gibbs, 53, passed peacefully into eternal life on February 12th, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Gibbs; daughters Sarah Gibbs, Bedford, TX and Caitlin Dibene, Dallas, TX; son, Dominic Dibene, Chapel Hill, NC.; sisters, Jeanie Burlage,
Denton, TX, and Laura Macsas, Celina, TX; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He now joins his parents, Allen and Mary Gibbs, in walking with our Lord.
Gary was born in San Antonio, TX, and moved to the Dallas area at age 10, where he continued to grow and touch many lives in so many wonderful ways. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1978 and often spoke with high regard of how his Jesuit education helped
shape him into the man he became.
As a native Texan, Gary was a true “Aggie” at heart, graduating from Texas A&M with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and continuing on to attain his Master’s Degree in Computer Science from UNT. His career life included working for TXU, IBM and
others in the computer industry. In those years, Gary found the joy it gave him to help and teach others. Wanting to do more, he attained teaching certificates for middle and high school and later went on to teach math at Mount Saint Michael in Dallas. He
would have told you that this was the most gratifying part of his working career. He had found true joy in seeing the math “click” in children’s minds, and the feelings of accomplishment with themselves. He loved being able to teach and to share all his gifts
and talents with others in any way he could.
After retiring from his working career, Gary did not retire from life. This was the beginning of a new chapter, filled with happy times which included travel, expanding his faith journey, and continued service to others. He was an active member of the St. Ann
Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the service opportunities this family-based organization offered.
Gary enjoyed camping throughout the U.S., traveling over 25 thousand miles. One of his favorite places to visit was Mt. Rushmore. He really appreciated the engineering feats and dedication of the men it took to carve this monument from the rock. Being the animal
lover he was, he also enjoyed the nature he saw at Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Custer parks. He was amazed by the multitudes of buffalo and the grandeur of the elk and was always amused by the antics of the prairie dogs. He loved an open camp fire and never
passed up a good back scratch!
Gary had a great sense of humor, and life always provided many opportunities for that! While traveling, Gary became extremely efficient at tire changes and joked about how fast he had gotten at it!
A devoted father, and loving husband, Gary lived by example, showing us all how to live and love in faith in his daily actions and interactions with others. He was truly a selfless man who so positively touched the lives of so many in his short time with us.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
