CORINTH W.C. "Bill" Smith, 90, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Tolar Cemetery in Tolar. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make a gift to their favorite charity or to their church in remembrance.
Bill was born Nov. 9, 1923 in Dallas to Marvin Lore Smith, Sr. and Connie O. Smith. He attended Sunset High School in Dallas then graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in chemical engineering in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps, seeing action in the Philippines. He moved to Odessa in 1958 where he worked with his mother and brothers as operations manager for Capitan Drilling until becoming president of Kenai Drilling of Texas until his retirement in 1982. He was active in working with the Boy Scouts and Explorers in the troops and post at Highland Methodist Church in Odessa. Bill and Dorothy were active members of First Christian Church. In retirement, they moved to Burnet and Bill moved to Lake Dallas, Corinth in 2005 after the death of Dorothy in April of that year to be closer to his children.
He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his wife of 57 years on April 23, 2005; his parents; brothers, Marvin L. Smith, Jr., Nelson Reese and Glen Reese; and grandson, Aaron Smith.
Survivors: Children, Robert Smith and wife, LaTreece of Tolar, Bill Smith, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Corpus Christi and Evelyn Ramirez and husband, Henry of Corinth; grandchildren, Michelle Hoting and husband, John of Santa Rose, CA., Paul Smith and wife, Paula of Rochester, NY., Lacey Cesarz and husband, Alex of Spring, Sarah Smith of Conroe, Gilbert Ramirez and wife, Barbara of San Angelo, Thomas Ramirez and wife, Dayna of Corinth and Joshua Ramirez and wife, Heather of the Colony; great grandchildren, Chase Smith, Reese Smith, Shannon Cotts, Sarah Caroline Cesarz, Anastasia Cesarz, Billy Thompson, Taylor Ramirez, Riley Ramirez and Mikayla Ramirez.
