Walter Jackson Sellers
Born: December 22, 1922
Died: April 13, 2014
Location: Richardson, Texas

SELLERS, "JACK" was born December 22, 1922 in Coolidge Texas. He was the son of the late Walter L. and Stella Sellers. He lived his early years in Coolidge where he graduated from Coolidge High School. During this time he spent 5 years in the Boy Scouts where in 1938 he earned his Eagle Scout Award. He earned 59 badges and was fortunate to be able to attend the Boy Scouts National Jamboree in 1938 in Washington D.C. He said this was a once in a lifetime experience for him and one of his most proud accomplishments.

After high school he attended Abilene Christian College, which is now known as Abilene Christian University, from 1941 through 1943. After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor the college had an armed forces drive where Jack found his interest with the Navy. In March of 1942 he volunteered for the Naval Reserve and was placed on inactive duty for 2 years. In August of 1943 he received his orders for active duty and was sent to San Diego training camp. After completing his training he tested for the Medical Corp and was accepted. He trained an additional 3 months in Balboa Park training facility.

In December 1943 he began his service in the Naval Hospital Corp and in January of 1944 received his orders to ship out to sea. He was ordered on a Transport and Hospital Evaluation ship. There were 110 beds, with 150 corpsman and 4 doctors aboard. It was considered a full hospital ship. They would sail to New Guinea to pick up the men who had been wounded or had taken ill and treat them on the way back to the States. Like all World War II veterans Jack had many a story to tell of his wartime experiences. He was proud to have been able to serve his country. His rank was Pharmacy mate 3rd class.

March 11, 1946 Jack was given his surrender date and a new life awaited him. In May of 46 he attended North Texas Agriculture College in Arlington Texas which was a division of A & M University. In January of 47 he left North Texas and started a business in Muleshoe,Texas doing agriculture terracing in the farming fields. He worked there for 2 years and then headed back to Coolidge where an old friend introduced him to Roselle Webb. Becky Jo Hancock said she had a very nice "Church of Christ" friend she wanted Jack to meet. That was in July of 1948 and the blind date must have gone well because he went to Waco to purchase a engagement ring and Jack and Roselle were married August 19th in Mexia,Texas at the Church of Christ. 'Jack's uncle, Bill Treat, performed the marriage ceremony. After a short honeymoon Jack and Roselle moved to College Station. He attended A & M University where he graduated in August of 1951. A daughter, Karen Sue, was born during this time.

After spending a short time in Salina, Kansas they moved to Houston where Jack worked for Lederle Laboratories from 1951 to 1956. Another daughter, Kathie, was born while in Houston. He then started his own wholesale business, National Distributing, from 1956 to 1959. He sold that business and moved to Dallas. In July of 60 Jack began work with First Texas Pharmaceuticals selling veterinary supplies and medicines. From there he went to William Cooper and Nephews and then finally to Fromm Laboratories in 1964 where he worked for 22 years until his retirement in May of 1986.
Jack and Roselle raised their two daughters in Dallas. Roselle died suddenly in February of 1976 after a short illness. Jack married Louise Elrod in January of 1977. After his retirement he worked for 13 years as a Sales Assistant for Home Builders in Plano Texas.
