Michael Donovane Stevens passed away in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Mike was born January 6, 1961 in Kerrville, TX to Roger and Barbara Rees Stevens. He grew up in Bandera, where he attended school, graduating high school in 1979. He started college in San Marcos and in his sophomore year transferred to Texas A&M University where he earned bachelor and masters degrees. He found his fascination with theater work while studying at A&M and this led to his career in the entertainment industry.

His first move after college was to Phoenix, AZ and then on the Los Angeles, CA where he was involved with work as a producer and writer on several television shows in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. While in San Francisco, Michael was on the creative team to develop and launch a new type of integrated live program “A View From The Bay” where he served as Supervising Producer. He also made documentary films overseas as well as in the US and spent time with ABC in San Francisco before returning to LA. Mike loved to travel and had visited Europe, China, the Galapagos Islands, as well as Egypt where he worked on a documentary film “Tutankhamun: New Details of the Boy King,” a 1 hour special featuring noted Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass. As Executive Producer of the talk show “Soap Talk” his work received a nomination for Best Talk Show in first year for the National Daytime Emmy Awards. His works include A&E Biographies “Famous Families,” The History Channel’s History vs. Hollywood and the Emmy Award winning documentary “Hollywood Rocks the Movies: The 1970s.” Michael oversaw these programs from inception to delivery.

He is survived by his father Roger Stevens and stepmother Jean Heep Stevens and stepbrother David Heep, aunts and uncles Lola & Lynn Post, Wilma & Tom Black, Wendell Rees, Floyd Wyatt and James Hanson, special friends Ted Martin and Tom & Dorothy Pabst and numerous cousins and friends.

He is predeceased by his mother Barbara Stevens, grandparents Wendell & Callie Rees and Vane & Vida Stevens and 5 aunts and 2 uncles.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 21, 2014, 3 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity or organization of your choice.
