COL Frame John Bowers Jr. 90, who was residing at the Army Residence Center, San Antonio, TX passed away on 7 NOV, 2013. His interment service will be 7 MAR, 2014, at FT the Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. Frame was born in Alice, TX, 26 JAN, 1923 to Frame and Mignon Bowers, One of five children, he lived there most of his young life. He graduated from Alice High School and was a member of the senior class at Texas A and M, class of 1944, when it was called to active duty during World War II. He later attended the University of Southern Mississippi and received his bachelor's degree in mathematics. Initially an Ordinance Corps officer he later attended flight school and transferred to the Transportation Corps where he continued to fly. He served with distinction for 28 years in numerous assignments to include service in WW II and Vietnam; achieving the rank of Colonel. He was a Master Aviator and had flown everything the Army had, both fixed wing and rotary wing during his career. His many decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. He retired from the Army in SEP 1970 and was the Deputy Commander of the Corpus Christi Army depot at that time. He was married to the late Nancy Rawls Bowers for over 53 years and they had three children, John, Bill, and Nancy and were the proud grandparents of 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Colleen, Kathryn, Kristin, and Thomas and 6 great grandchildren. For the last several years he was married to the late Sybil Atkins and resided in San Antonio. He will always be remembered by those that knew and loved him as loving husband, father, and grandfather and as an Aggie and a Patriot.
