Norman Mansfield
MANSFIELD
Norman Hicks Mansfield went home to be with the Lord on 1 March 2014 at the age of 92. He went peacefully at his home in San Antonio to enter into eternal rest. Norman had a long and fascinating life filled with great friends and fine people. He loved his family and was proud of all of their accomplishments.

Norman was born in Bandera, Texas, 7 July 1921, on Cherry Street to Henry Lee and Clara Mansfield who owned a ranch in Tarpley, Texas and a meat market in Bandera, Texas.

Norman is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann DeWerff-Mansfield, his sister, Eva Marie Evans of Blue Springs, Missouri, his three children from his first marriage: son, John Steven Mansfield and, wife, Kathleen Lloyd, of Pine Mountain Club, California; son, Michael Lee Mansfield and, wife, Linda Mansfield, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; daughter, Dawn Elise Mansfield of San Antonio, Texas; and six grandchildren: Kelley Mansfield, Devyn Mansfield, Sean Jenvay, Leah Mansfield, Michaela Mansfield, and Andrew Lee Mansfield, whom Norman took exceptional pride in talking about their many interesting escapades at school, traveling, or hunting.

Norman graduated from Texas A & M University in 1943 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. In World War II, he served in Ordinance as a Lieutenant responsible for keeping the tanks repaired and moving across France and Germany under the command of General Patton.

Airplanes became a necessity when Norman entered into the oil and gas business as he had such a large multi-state area to serve on an ongoing basis. Norman also served as a Deputy Sheriff in the Aviation Division of the Harris County Sheriff's Department.

Norman always had a song in his heart, a smile for everyone, a story, if a person had time and laughter, and a love for those who were close to him. He said he was ready to be with the Lord as he had accepted him as his savior. Old time hymns and music were a special joy as his voice was strong and beautiful.

Norman grew up in Tarpley, Texas. During Norman's adult life, he resided in Houston, San Antonio, and Lakehills. In his later years, Norman resided on the shores of Medina Lake. He was active in politics and community activities, many of which he filmed and narrated. Many parades, rodeos, barbeques, cooking contests, and parties are in his film collection. He was a member of the Medina Lake Betterment Association, The American Legion, The Bandera Chamber of Commerce, and the Bandera Historical Commission. Norman was a member of the Lakehills United Methodist Church. After the war, Norman donated building materials to the Tarpley Baptist Church. His mother had a special place in her heart for the church and both she and Norman were dedicated to helping to maintain the church and help it prosper.

The Mansfield's came to the Hill Country in the mid-1850s. Norman was a fourth generation Bandera County resident. His grandfather, Andrew Lee Mansfield, served many years as the County Judge of Bandera County. Norman's grandson is named after his great- grandfather.
