July 3, 1932 - September 29, 2013
Shreveport, LA- Services celebrating the life of Tom Snelling, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Lane Chapel at Noel United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2, 5:00-7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial
Funeral Home on Mansfield Road. The family will receive guests at 10:00 AM in the Parlor at Noel UMC. Officiating will be Rev. Mimi McDowell. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Prospect Cemetery in Florien, LA.
Tom was born on July 3, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Will Dick Snelling and Mary Audry Lawrence Snelling. In his early childhood years, Tom moved to Shreveport where he graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1950. He attended Texas A&M University,
where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force as a Commissioned Officer and Pilot. After serving in the Air Force, Tom moved back to Shreveport
and in 1979 opened a Plastics Manufacturing Business in Blanchard, LA, Snelling's Thermo-Vac, Inc. Over the years, Tom was an active member of many organizations including the Kiwanis Club, Blanchard Poke Salad Festival, a Master Mason of Caddo Lodge #179
and Blanchard Lodge #447, and a Sir Knight of Shreveport's Ascension #6 Knights Templar United States. Tom was a devoted husband of 43 years and a loving father to his children. Tom was a man of many talents. Whether creating a beautiful cross-stitch, building
a detailed model airplane, or flying a stunt kite, Tom enjoyed life to the fullest.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Katherine Gleason.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy Snelling, brother, Richard Snelling and wife Linda, his three children, Andy Snelling and his wife Sharon of Shreveport, Katherine Olenyik and husband David of Mechanicsville, VA, and April Sharlow and husband John of Shreveport;
and 5 grandchildren.
