Leadership Retreat Encourages Freshmen To Get Involved

Freshman Leadership Development Retreat is a student organization founded in 1999 that is dedicated to helping freshmen improve their leadership skills and providing them opportunities to get involved on campus during their first year.

In January 2012, 30 upperclassmen counselors and about 120 freshmen participated in a three-day retreat in Bryan. Donors to The Association of Former Students Annual Fund helped provide support through printing resources to assist in the operation of the FLDR annual retreat. Meghan King ’12, FLDR’s 2012 director, sent a letter of appreciation to The Association for helping make this year’s retreat a success.

“Each year for the retreat, we assemble folders for the freshmen,” she wrote. “This requires that we
make hundreds of copies, which can be very expensive. The FLDR staff must raise thousands of dollars to finance the retreat every year, and The Association’s generosity has significantly lessened the burden of

From the FLDR retreat, students have gone on to network with current yell leaders, the student body president and many other influential Aggie student leaders, creating opportunities for campus involvement past their freshman year.
