I graduated from Vet School with lots of cool people in 1979, as Kate Groesbeck. From there I moved to San Antonio to practice veterinary medicine. I married the following summer (1980) and became Kate Mathis. The next decade we spent raising a family
and mostly following my husband's professional career while I continued to practice part-time. In 1986, I transitioned to Veterinary Consultant at San Antonio College to help Dr. Dennis McIntosh lobby for a certification program for Registered Animal Technicians.
Although the Board shelved the program for a few years due to the poor economy at the time, I stayed on as Adjunct Faculty in the Biology Department at SAC. I remain there today, although I've been through many personal changes in the last decade. I became
single again in 2001, obtained my MPH in 2003, became a mortgage banker in 2004-2007, moved to Austin in 2005, became a first-time grandmother to Emily in 2006, lived in Nairobi Kenya for 3 months as a missionary at an orphanage there in 2007, and finally
moved back to San Antonio and SAC in 2008. Whew! That's a lot of changes. Now it's 2014, and I'm awaiting the birth of my 5th grand baby...praying for safe delivery of healthy baby boy!
