“It starts with a ‘Howdy’ and ends with a ‘Here.’” – Martha Price
This phrase, now dear to many Aggies, comes from an Aggie mom who lost her daughter.
Many versions of it have spread; the image shown here is by Savannah Fisher ’16.
Martha Price explains it this way, “An Aggie’s story at Texas A&M begins with a friendly spoken ‘Howdy!’ and continues on through their Aggie family with a ‘Here!’ at Aggie Muster.”
She is the mother of Jackie Price Dunn ’02, whose Aggie Ring now resides in The Association's Memorial Ring Collection.
An engineer who was a Class of ’02 officer at A&M and as a former student organized Musters and social programs for fellow Aggies, Jackie died in 2013 after a cycling accident.
At the dedication ceremony for Jackie's Ring, her mother said, “It was a ‘Howdy,’ the simple friendly word spoken, that was the key that opened the door to the Aggie Spirit for Jackie.
“Jackie hugged and loved everyone she met with a friendly ‘Howdy’ and a big Aggie smile.”
Association Vice President Kathryn Greenwade ’88 said, “Her Ring is now placed alongside those of other outstanding Aggies whose names were called at Aggie Muster long before those families were ready to answer ‘Here’... but whose lives shone brightly to the world.”
