Texas A&M bars 9/11 event from campus

Texas A&M announced today that an event linked by its white supremacist organizer to the weekend's tragedy in Charlottesville, Va., will not be allowed on campus.

"On December 6, 2016, the university and law enforcement allowed the same speaker the opportunity to share his views, taking all of the necessary precautions to ensure a peaceful event. However, in this case, circumstances and information relating to the event have changed and the risks of threat to life and safety compel us to cancel the event," the university said in a statement.

The Battalion had already reported that A&M spokeswoman Amy Smith said the university in no way promotes or agrees with the organizer's ideas or actions, "His views and those of the group he represents are counter to the core values of Texas A&M," said Smith, who is A&M's executive vice president for marketing and communications.
