Aggie Network Student Ambassadors presented TAMU-AMSA with the donation.

This February, donations from The Association of Former Students allowed 60 members of the Texas A&M chapter of the American Medical Student Association to attend the AMSA National Convention in Washington, D.C.

"Becoming a future physician is not easy," AMSA admits, and the TAMU chapter exists as a pre-professional organization that provides networking events, volunteer opportunities and hands-on learning opportunities to help premedical undergraduate students achieve their goals. Being the largest chapter in their region, this student group aims to equip each member for successful entry to medical school.

March 30 is National Doctors' Day and we recognize and encourage all of the aspiring students across campus who are in the early processes of preparation to pursue this selfless profession. We especially thank our loyal Century Club members and active donors for allowing us to support this group's attendance at the convention.

TAMU-AMSA President Jacqueline Chavez ’17, a biomedical sciences major from Knoxville, Tenn., says exposure to this event will aid the organization in their goal of promoting the development of pre-medical students into young healthcare professionals. Chavez noted that without the donations provided to supplement the costs of travel and lodging, many of the members would have been unable to attend.

The mission of TAMU-AMSA is to educate the premedical undergraduate students at Texas A&M about current issues in medicine, to provide students with opportunities to develop a world perspective, and to help students gain valuable experience through serving those truly in need within our community. In doing so, we contribute not only to the development of premedical students on their path to medical school, but to the development of physicians that are actively working to better the human condition and the lives of those around them.

The Association of Former Students, through the generous support of former students and friends of Texas A&M, in conjunction with the Student Organization Funding Assistance Board and the Department of Student Activities, is proud to offer limited supplemental funding for Recognized Student Organizations and their activities. Gifts also financially support other student activities, scholarships, financial aid, faculty enrichment programs, and former student programs and services. See how your gift will make a difference to Texas A&M University.
