A list of the 50 Most Powerful Latinas in corporate America was recently published by Fortune magazine and the Association of Latino Professionals for America, and it includes two Aggies.

Maria Fernanda Mejia '85 graduated from A&M with a bachelor's in industrial distribution. She is a senior vice president of The Kellogg Company and president of Kellogg Latin America.

Aleida Rios '91 graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor's in chemical engineering. She is now vice president of operations for BP Gulf of Mexico, overseeing a team of over 1,000 and managing a $1 billion operating budget.

Four criteria were used to select the 50 woman on the list:

  • The size and importance of the woman's business in the global economy.
  • The health and direction of the business.
  • The arc of the woman's career—résumé and runway ahead.
  • Their social and cultural influence.
