Steven was born November 19, 1955 in Brazoria County, Texas, to Alfred Randolph McGown and Laura Ann Bain McGown. He was their second child and their only son. He had one sister, Doris Elizabeth.

As a youngster growing up in Lake Jackson, Texas, Steven enjoyed riding his bicycle around the neighborhood, and hanging out with his big sister Doris. He was a Boy Scout, and enjoyed photography, painting and drawing.

Steven graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1974. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Photographer for School Sports and Activities, and a member of the Brazoswood HS Stage Band. He was an accomplished musician on drums, playing in the band “Waves of Joy” in college. He attended Texas A&M University, and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Steven continued his education at California State University – Long Beach, California, receiving a Master of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry in 1983. He had a long career in the scientific instruments field, specializing in Mass Spectrometry, and had recently retired, and consulting with a few select companies.

Steven considered his two children, Jenna Baine McGown, and Michael Randolph McGown, his biggest achievement.

In 2015, Steven welcomed the arrival of his granddaughter, Vivian Florence McGown, with her parents Michael & Jill, in Manville, Rhode Island.

Later that same year, Steven enjoyed attending the wedding of his daughter Jenna to Josh Hudson in Greensboro, North Carolina.

He had a lifelong love of music, particularly Country Western, and especially love songs in that genre. He enjoyed old movies, but also loved the Avatar movie. Favorite vacation spots were Aruba and St Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

Steven’s favorite foods were filet mignon with potatoes, and pecan pie for dessert. He enjoyed visiting local watering holes, and watching Aggie football and basketball teams. Steven also loved animals, especially Terry’s horse Jim, and contributed regularly to the ASPCA.

Steven Randolph McGown, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, after a brief illness in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Steven was born November 19, 1955 in Brazoria County, Texas, the second child and only son of Alfred Randolph McGown and Laura Ann Bain McGown. His father Randy, and older sister, Doris Elizabeth McGown Angleton predeceased him.

Steven is survived by his mother Ann Bain McGown and husband, Jerry Richmond of Lumberton, Texas; daughter, Jenna McGown and husband, Josh Hudson of Greensboro, North Carolina; son Michael McGown and Jill Drummond of Manville, Rhode Island, and grand-daughter Vivian Florence McGown of Manville, Rhode Island; nieces Alessandra Angleton and Nicole Angleton of California; step-sisters Linda Richmond of Woodville, Texas and Cheryl Emerson of Lumberton, Texas; step-brother David (Amanda) Richmond of Silsbee, Texas; and longtime partner, Terry Garcia of Bergenfield, New Jersey.

Steven is also survived by his aunts, Ellouise Richmond, Betty McGown, Connie McGown, Lynn Thomas; his uncle Don (Esther) McGown; and cousins Martha (Ray) Montgomery, Jerry (Dawn) Kirby, Sandra (Don) Carrington, John (Cathy) Richmond, Ronnie (Cheryl) Richmond, Donna (Eric) Sachs, Scott Richmond, James P. (Mary) McGown III, Rebecca McGown Miles, James E. McGown, David J. McGown, Michael A. McGown, Jeff (Julie) Thomas, Brad (Danny) Thomas, and Julie Thomas Burke.

In addition to his father and sister, Steven was predeceased by his grandparents James Peyton and Ruby (Norsworthy) McGown, and Warren and Laura (Glover) Bain; his uncles Bob Richmond, James P. McGown II, Joe McGown, Dick Thomas, Ben Kirby; his aunt Betty Jo (Bain) Kirby and his cousin Miriam Kathleen McGown Fresk.

Steven's body has been cremated, and a private service will be planned for the immediate family.
