William George Volz
August 18, 1925 – November 29, 2016
William George Volz passed peacefully from this world to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of November 29, 2016.
Bill was born in Peoria, Illinois to Frank & Marie Volz; moved to San Antonio; and graduated from Central Catholic High School in San Antonio in 1942. That year he attended Texas A&M and completed four semesters and was a member of the Aggie Corp of Cadets;
officially class of 1946. He left school early to enlist in the United States Marines Corp (1943).
Bill would often share that his boot camp experience in the Marine Corps was a little less strenuous having just come from the A&M Corps of Cadets at that time. During his service in the Marines, he received training as a Radio Technician at College of The
Ozarks near Branson, MO.
He returned to A&M in the fall of 1946 where he eventually graduated with his degree in Petroleum Engineering (1949). He began his career with Texaco June, 1949 mostly in the South Texas oil patch where he met Mary Mildred Williams. They married and had two
sons Michael and Larry.
Bill’s wife, Mildred, contracted polio in 1955 while in the hospital for the birth of their second son Larry. She lost the use of both her arms and was in an iron lung for many months, eventually able to lay down with a remote respirator.
Bill took care of everything and everyone; his wife, two little boys, most of the cooking and cleaning, and all things in between; all while working a full time job (he worked for Texaco a little over 34 years; retiring in November, 1983. He worked for several
independent companies after that.) Bill used to often say, “I learned everything I needed to know about life from being in the Marine Corp."
Bill loved and served God, family, and his country all the days of his life. He was a faithful member of the St Francis De Sales Church for over 40 years. God and the world know him for his commitment to faith, integrity, compassion, and the spirit with which
he lived his life on this earth. We celebrate his exceptional life and hold up his memory as an inspiration for our family that will never be forgotten. Words cannot describe how amazing William G. Volz was, and still is in our hearts and minds. We will
always miss him and will always aspire to be more like him.
Bill is survived by his Son, Larry Volz.
Grandsons: Taylor Volz; Jordan Volz.
Great Grandchildren: Lawson Volz; Reagan Volz; Oliver Volz; Beau Volz.
And all the people fortunate enough to have known him.
