OWEN

Larry Wayne Owen, 66, of Rockport, Texas, died at home Friday, January 20, 2017. He was born October 19, 1950 in Weimar, Texas to Virginia McGrath Hightower Owen and Robert G. Owen. Larry grew up in Schulenburg, Texas where his father taught him a love of the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and proudly becoming an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Center High School in 1969, and was a member of the Texas Aggie Class of 1973. On January 6, 1975 he married Katie Marie Giese in Pasadena, Texas. He worked for Saga, Marriott, and Sodexho providing food service management for hospitals until he retired in 2010. Across his career he moved, with his family, to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, always returning home to South Texas and the Hill Country. He was a lifelong outdoorsman, spending much of his retirement hunting and fishing all over the world.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Texas. Visitation will follow. Survivors include his daughters Amanda Owen Van Horne and her husband Sam of Iowa City, Iowa, and Laura Owen Lindner of San Antonio, Texas, two brothers, Rick (Kathy) and Gerry (Deanna) and four grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Lindner and Lydia and Nathaniel Van Horne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Oaks (9385 Miller Ln, San Antonio, TX 78266) or Navidad Baptist Cemetery (Mr. Mayo Walker, President/Treasurer, 1007 Walker Rd., Oakland, TX 78951).
