Dewey Everett Brown, Col. USA (ret.), age 89, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away on January 21, 2017.

Dewey was born in Austin, Texas on January 21, 1928. He graduated from Sinton High School and received a Business Administration Degree from Texas A & M University, College Station, TX. Dewey was a distinguished military graduate, a member of Troop A (Cavalry), and the Ross Volunteers.

Dewey was married to Dolores Nina Cardona on January 22, 1955 at Fort McPherson Georgia; they were married forty-seven years before Dewey was preceded in death by his wife Dolores (“Mickey”) Cardona Brown in 2002. He was the son of Robert Clarence Brown and Eleanor Rutkie Brown.

Dewey served in the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949, after which he returned to Texas A & M to complete his bachelor’s degree. Upon college graduation, Dewey served his country an additional 26 years as a career military officer, rising to the rank of full Colonel, US Army, retiring in 1977 as the Chief of the Doctrine and Organization Directorate of the Office of Assistant Chief of Staff for Force Development. Dewey served in WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Wars. After his distinguished military career, Dewey joined General Dynamics Land Systems, Sterling Heights, MI, in 1977, where he retired as the Director of Logistics for the Abrams M1A1 tank program in 1993.

After retirement from his second career, Dewey, and his beloved wife Mickey, settled in Yorktown, VA. Dewey enjoyed time fishing, maintaining his lawn and garden, and vacationing with his family at the beach. He was a member Son’s of the American Revolution, and a proud descendant of a patriot who contributed to establishing the independence of the United States of America. Dewey was a member of the Episcopal Church.

Dewey is survived by his four children, Virginia Brown Hardy (Scott), The Rev. Dr. Dewey Everett Brown, Jr. (Debi), Robert Walter Brown, and Stephen Jeffery Brown (Catherine); nine grandchildren, Keller Brown Hardy (Jenna), Marilee Bennet Dobbs, Rebecca Brown Hedgecock (Jarrod), Savannah Rose Brown, Kaitlyn Noel Brown, Christina Lynn Nelson (Andrew), Erica Marie Verkest (Mark), Ryan Jeffrey Brown, Richard Cardona Brown; six great-grandchildren, Collin William Brown, Abigale Grace Hedgecock, Eloise Marlow Hedgecock, Darla Bennet Hedgecock, Everett Steven Hedgecock, and Grady Lee Verkest; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Deborah Cardona.

Dewey will be interred with graveside military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Demaine Funeral Home, Alexandria, Virginia. (interment date to be determined.)
