William Edward Walker Sr.(1931 - 2016)
WALKER SR, William Edward William Edward Walker, Sr., (85) a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and neighbor passed away peacefully on December 6, 2016. Bill was born in LaGrange, TX on July 9, 1931 to William L. and Pauline Rose Walker. He lived in Smithville, Wichita Falls, Ft. Worth, Austin, and College Station, TX; Ft. Smith (three weeks), Ft. Bliss, and South Korea (one year) until he settled in Dallas in the late 50s. Bill was a proud member of the Texas A&M Class of '52 and served eight years in the US Army. He worked as a Southland Life independent insurance agent and was a member of the Presidents Club for over 50 years. Bill was a parishioner at St. Monica Catholic Church for over 55 years. He was a member and past president of the Park Cities Lions Club, the St. Monica Holy Name Society and the St. Monica Men's Club. He was also a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and an active member in the Big D Chorus. He enjoyed raising funds for St. Monica, the Lions Club, the Town North YMCA, and the American Cancer Society. He was honored by the Lions International Foundation as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2014, the highest form of recognition based on exemplary service. He with his wives, Rosemary and Doris, raised 13 children. Bill enjoyed spending his years with his young children in sports and Indian Guides. He liked picnics, events and parades. He attended daily Mass at St. Monica and loved volunteering, watching the birds outside his window, Westerns, crime shows, and Wheel of Fortune. He was a dedicated Dad and grandfather known for his bacon, eggs, and biscuits, salsa, beans, soups, and sandwiches. He made his children's school lunches for over 22 years. And, his friends and family knew him for a strong Martini and Bloody Mary. Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Rosemary O'Brien Walker and Doris Blunck Walker; his parents William L. and Pauline Rose Walker; and many relatives and good friends. He is survived by his children: Cindy & Al Pierotti, Bill Jr. & Marilu Walker, Patty & Hart Mason, Nancy & Tim Adams, David & Kelly Walker, Mary & Bill Sladek, Drs. Juliann & Jack Chavez of Knoxville, TN, Joanie & Robert Brunkhorst II, Dr. Joe & Laura Walker, Drs. Janet & Bert Peterson of Dayton, OH, Jenny & Jesse Salazar, Jerilynn & PJ Putnam, and Dr. Jamie Rae Walker; 29 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren (and two on the way); and many extended family members and friends and his loving puppy Lily. The family would like to thank his wonderful doctors: Dr. J., Dr. Ighani and her team, Dr. Ramnath, C. Todd, Dr. Rosenthal, Dr. Williams, Dr. Tobelman (and Mary), and Dr. Minigutti; the VNA, Faith Presby Hospice, Nurse Lee, and his wonderful caregivers and caretakers: Bessie, Cre, Gloria, Frey, Haimanot, the staff at PVN, Robyn Phelan and family, Pedro, Letty, and the many friends and neighbors who helped him stay at home and gave him rides. Services will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church including a Visitation at 6:30 p.m. on December 26, 2016 followed by a Scriptural Rosary at 7 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held on December 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Monica School Endowment Trust Fund (www.stmonicaschool.org).
