Century Club Impact Moments

Stephanie Cannon '06 September 12, 2016 9:29 AM updated: October 2, 2017 1:56 PM

The Association of Former Students is excited to be a part of the Game Day experience in Kyle Field through the Century Club Impact Moment, featured at halftime of every home game.

At the South Carolina game on Sept. 30, we featured the Texas A&M Sounding Rocketry Team. Each and every year, through the generosity of the Aggie Network, The Association of Former Students is able to provide support to many of the 1,200-plus student organizations at Texas A&M. This past year, the Sounding Rocketry Team was one of the organizations impacted.

The support provided allowed the team to compete for the first time at the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition, where they helped project Texas A&M engineering excellence to the world by receiving a second-place category award, while also winning an overall technical excellence and innovation award.

At the University of Louisiana-Lafayette game on Sept. 16, we featured Coach's Night. Each summer prior to the football season, A&M Clubs across Texas, with support from The Association, Aggie Athletics and A&M Club volunteers, host Coach’s Night event to raise scholarship funds for A&M students.

Sept. 9, 2017:

We featured the story of Ross Durr '08, former student who found an Aggie historical treasure online and brought it home to Aggieland:

Nov. 24, 2016:

We featured Bill Huffman '53 and his wife Barbara, and Dwain Mayfield '59 and his wife Lynda, who have generously "paid it forward" to nearly 700 Texas A&M students by sponsoring their membership in The Association’s Century Club.

Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016:

We featured the Aggie Ring, one of the oldest and most revered traditions at Texas A&M University, and we congratulated the more than 14,000 Aggies who received their Rings in 2016.

Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016:

We remembered the Aggie Muster that took place 70 years ago on the island of Corregidor. A Muster that produced the famous photo that was a commemoration of a 1942 war-time roll call of Aggies on the Rock.

And now thanks to the efforts of The Association of Former Students and George Hester '72, many of the Aggie Rings worn by those in the famous photo will forever be displayed in the Aggie Muster exhibit at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center.

Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016:

R. Yale Lary '52 played football at Texas A&M from 1949 to 1951 and was selected as a first-team defensive back on the 1951 All-SWC team. He then played 11 seasons in the NFL, appeared in eight Pro Bowls, and was first-team All-NFL five times. He was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979 and remains the only Aggie to be so honored.

Earlier this year, Aggies came together to visit Lary in Fort Worth and show the respect and appreciation that Aggies everywhere have for one of the greatest Aggie legends. Watch the video and be proud that you are making a difference!

You can read more of the Yale Lary story at tx.ag/YaleLary. He was also featured in the June episode of Around The Association.
