Sabrina (Garg) Young wanted to share her Aggie Ring Day story. It's beautiful. You have the floor, Sabrina:

“My dad, Vijay Garg '73, worked several jobs to put himself through A&M, so he never had the money to buy his Aggie Ring. He was in Baghdad working as a civilian contractor during my junior/senior years of college, and really wasn't able to come home much. I hadn't seen him in almost a year, but he promised me that he'd come back the day I got my Aggie Ring.

"He didn't know it at the time, but when I ordered my Ring, I went ahead and ordered his Ring for him, too. So when my Ring Day finally arrived, my dad flew home, drove straight to College Station, and we went to Northgate. Little did he know that I picked up his Ring before he got into town and had it hidden in my purse. We sat down on the benches outside of the Chicken and I handed him his Ring box, saying something like, 'Hey, Dad, look at my Ring box, it's really cool.'

"He took it from me and turned it over in his hands a few times with a puzzled look on his face, clearly wondering what was so special about a little box covered in maroon velvet material. Eventually, he opened it and saw his Ring inside. I wish I had a picture of his face when he realized what was going on, because it was priceless!

"The really sad thing is that he lost his Ring while traveling several months before he died, but when we were cleaning out his stuff from his room after he died, I found that Ring box in his bedside table. It was so sweet that he kept it. I miss this man so much, but I'm grateful to have these memories of him.

"Love you, Daddy. I know you're proudly wearing your Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1973 Ring in Heaven.”

Over here at The Association, there's not much more we love than great Aggie stories. We want to hear your stories, too! Leave yours in the comment section and make our day.
