The National Science Foundation, Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, A&M's School of Public Health, a professor at Mays Business School, and a former student in private industry are all collaborating to improve cancer care.
“I’m very excited about this collaboration,”
said Bita Kash, director of the NSF Center for Health Organization
Transformation and associate professor at the Texas A&M School of Public
Health who is leading the university side of the effort. “I think it’s unique
to have such a multidisciplinary group working on a single project, but you
will see more of this type of collaboration—especially the involvement with
industry partners—as time goes on.”
“In the current system, even the best cancer
care is somewhat fragmented,” Kash said. “So, we’re interested in what cancer
care will look like if representatives from the diagnostic, treatment and
survivorship teams all came together to create a ‘dream team’ that would
communicate and coordinate directly with the patient and his or her family."
