Aggie Receives Fourth Star

Stephen Wilson '81 has been nominated to be the next vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced July 22.

Wilson previously served as deputy commander of U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, a position he had held since July 2015.

Wilson graduated from Texas A&M in 1981 with a degree in aerospace engineering and joined the Air Force straight out of school. He is a bomber pilot with more than 4,600 hours and 680 combat hours on-board the B-52 Stratofortress and B-1 Lancer, and he has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

When Wilson's fourth star was pinned in a ceremony on July 22, he joined a very exclusive list of Aggies who have attained that rank:

  • Otto Weyland '23 (bio).
  • Bernard Schriever '31 (bio).
  • Joseph Ashy '62 (bio).
  • Patrick Gamble '67 (bio).
  • Hal Hornburg '68 (bio).
  • T. Michael "Buzz" Moseley '71 (bio).
  • Will Fraser '74 (bio).
