Texas A&M University officials have announced the distribution of $5.5 million in gifts from The Association of Former Students, the University’s alumni association, to support prioritized programs impacting scholarships, student success, student activities, faculty development and recognition, awards programs and university wide excellence for the 2015-16 academic year.

This distribution, includes a record $4.55 million in support from The Association’s Annual Fund, in addition to $1 million in endowed scholarship gifts. The annual support is made possible by the collective gifts of almost 51,000 former students, faculty, staff, Aggie parents and friends of Texas A&M who provided an average gift of $186 in 2014, illustrating the powerful difference small gifts can make.

In thanking The Association for its support, Texas A&M University President Michael K. Young reflected on the importance of unrestricted giving.

“This support from The Association of Former Students on behalf of each individual member of the Aggie Network provides critical investment in our ongoing efforts,” said Michael K. Young, president. “I hope each and every former student, parent and friend of A&M will consider joining us in this noble cause. All gifts, whether to the Annual Fund of The Association for alumni and discretionary support or donor directed to projects and endowments of our colleges, make a tremendous difference in the health, vitality and future impact of Texas A&M University.”

In addition to the University initiatives funded, the Annual Fund supports The Association’s operations, including management of the Aggie Ring program, outreach to former students through class, club and constituent network channels, publication of Texas Aggie magazine, management of the alumni database and management of the Clayton Williams, Jr. ’54 Alumni Center, which hosts more than 250 Aggie Network-related events throughout the year.

Porter S. Garner III ’79, President and CEO of The Association, credited the organization’s success to the power of the worldwide Aggie Network and the former students, faculty, staff and friends of Texas A&M who faithfully contribute to The Association’s Annual Fund.

“Texas A&M is certainly unique, and so, too, is the annual support provided by Aggies to Texas A&M,” Garner said. “The gifts of the Aggie Network to the Annual Fund provide meaningful cash support and total impact to our university that is unmatched and unrivaled by any alumni association in the world.”

A record 2014 Annual Fund allowed The Association to provide $350,000 more in funding than originally committed. Almost half of the $9.4 million contributed by former students in 2014 was returned to the University in cash support to fund a variety of programs identified by the Texas A&M University leadership and approved by The Association’s Board of Directors. Funding will be made available to each academic college and administrative division through identified projects and/or indirectly through student, faculty and staff participation in university-wide awards and programs.
