Scot Walker '90 August 28, 2015 9:41 AM updated: August 28, 2015 10:30 AM

Texas A&M's University Honors Welcome Ceremony took place this morning in the Bethancourt Ballroom at the MSC. This is the official welcome for the Honors freshmen of the Class of 2019 and public introduction of the Class of 2018 University Scholars, who are the official student ambassadors for the University Honors Program.

Kelli Hutka '97, who leads The Association's Campus Programs team, was at the event and took a snapshot of a shout-out to The Association in the event program.

Donors to The Association of Former Students' Annual Fund have for many years supported the University Honors Program and many other academic programs and services. Hayley Cox '14 wrote a great blog post last year about the impact former student donors have on the Honors and Undergraduate Research program.

"[The Association] has been an essential contributor to National Fellowship applicants, Student Research Week, Honors courses, and HUR’s annual event which celebrates graduating seniors. [Association] funding has been used to prepare students for National Fellowship applications such as the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships. This funding will also be used this spring in order to support Student Research Week, in which over 300 undergraduates present their research and scholarly works. Finally, this year [Association]  funding will be used to support over 1500 students who are enrolled in more than 300 Honors courses taught by faculty, and to recognize the accomplishments of Honors graduates and Undergraduate Research Scholars."
