Texas A&M football legend John David Crow died Wednesday evening.

The Texas A&M Athletics Department and the Texas A&M Lettermen’s Association will host a celebration of his life on Tuesday, June 23 at 2 p.m. inside Reed Arena on the Texas A&M campus.

The 1957 Heisman Trophy winner played halfback for the Aggies before graduating in 1958. He played under Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant before going on to play for the NFL. He returned to Texas A&M in 1983 as an assistant athletic director for Coach Jackie Sherrill. He served as athletic director from 1988 to 1993.

He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus award, the highest honor bestowed upon a former student of Texas A&M University.
