135 Years Of Serving Aggies

Stephanie Cannon '06 June 30, 2014 5:09 PM

On the 135 anniversary of The Association of Former Students, The Eagle published a letter from its editorial board celebrating and congratulating the Aggie Network.

"Texas A&M University had barely opened its doors--as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas--when students began banding together for life after graduation," the editorial said. "They recognized that what they had as Aggies was special and the bonds they shared as students would serve them well in later years. How right they were. Today the hundreds of thousands of Aggie graduates display loyalty to their alma mater in amazing ways. Indeed, the A&M Association of Former Students holds the admiration of just about every other college and university in the world. Every school would love to have the former A&M students on their its of graduates."

The editorial touched on the Aggie Ring, how the Aggie Spirit motivates Aggies to care for other Aggies, and how former students raised nearly $9 million for scholarships and other support for A&M through The Association.
