Stephanie Cannon '06 May 23, 2013 4:31 PM

Special Agent Christopher Lorek '93, a member of the FBI’s ultra-elite Hostage Rescue Team, was killed Friday during a training accident involving a helicopter off the coast of Virginia Beach.

Also killed in the accident was Special Agent Stephen Shaw, according to reporting done by Fox News

In the same article, Lorek was described as brave and courageous by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller. "Like all who serve on the Hostage Rescue Team, they accept the highest risk each and every day, when training and on operational missions, to keep our nation safe. Our hearts are with their wives, children, and other loved ones who feel their loss most deeply. And they will always be part of the FBI Family," he said.

Lorek is survived by his wife, Jennifer; two daughters, Abigail and Madeline; his parents, William and Janet Lorek; and brother, Jason Lorek.

Lorek had served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 17 years.

Lorek graduated from Texas A&M University in 1993 with a degree in ocean engineering. He was a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation currently serving as a Special Operator on the Hostage Rescue Team in Quantico, Va.

His full obituary and service arrangements are available online

More information about Lorek is also available on the Officer Down Memorial Page.

An Aggie flag will be flown at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center in Lorek's honor.
