Silver Wings is a national, civilian, student-run organization dedicated to military support. At universities
across the nation, Silver Wings strives to educate the community about national defense, participate in service opportunities and develop members to succeed in the professional world.
Silver Wings at Texas A&M works closely with the Air Force cadet organization, Arnold Air Society. This past year, the Texas A&M chapter of Silver Wings was chosen to serve as national staff for the 2011-12 academic
year. The organization was in charge of organizing, running, and attending conferences all year long.
One key duty of the Texas A&M Silver Wings chapter was to run a national conference in Detroit, Mich.,
where hundreds of members of Silver Wings gathered to learn about the organization and develop themselves professionally.
While these responsibilities were all fantastic opportunities, they required funding. Through the support of The Association of Former Students, Silver Wings was able to finance all their travels for the year. Donors to The Association helped pay for airfare
to these events, at which the students met many important key people, including the chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Secretary of the Air Force, and other military personnel.
“These experiences will forever influence the members of Silver Wings, and they would not have been possible without the help from The Association of Former Students,” said Jenny Stuckenschneider ’12.
