John Louis Dannelley, 82, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in San Jacinto Church of Christ, 823 S. Mississippi St., with Glen Walton officiating and Dale Dennis and Leonard Harper assisting. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St.

John was born July 16, 1928, in Grapeland. He married Maxine Tucker on Nov. 21, 1964, in Amarillo.

John was a Texas A&M graduate and was a very loyal fan! He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean conflict.

He was longtime and devoted member of San Jacinto Church of Christ, where he was very active in the Amarillo Bible Chair and High Plains Children's Home. He loved working outdoors on his farm and on his tractors.

The love of his life was his family and being involved in his grandchildren's lives; he never missed a sporting event. John was a die-hard Aggie fan, attending games and participating in Aggie traditions.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, in 2009.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Burks of Amarillo; a son, Tommy Thompson of Jal, N.M.; a sister, Sue Guiterrez of Katy; a brother, Clyde Dannelley of Florence; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Bible Chair, 2501 S. Jackson St, Amarillo, TX 79109-2313; or High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118-4119.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
