Marty Holmes ’87 Joins The Association Team

The Association of Former Students is pleased to introduce Marty Holmes ’87 as Assistant Executive Director for Programs and Marketing. Holmes graduated from Texas A&M in 1987 with a BBA in Marketing and joined The Association staff in May 2003, filling the position vacated when Andrea Prothro ’88 resigned to relocate to Houston with her family. He comes to The Association from the North American Meat Producers Association (NAMP) in Reston, Va. where he was the executive vice president.

While a student at Texas A&M, Holmes was a member of Company D-1 in the Corps of Cadets, was elected yell leader his junior year and head yell leader his senior year. A Ross Volunteer and recipient of the Buck Weirus Spirit Award, he served the Class of ’87 as a class agent from 1992-1997.

It was Holmes’ older brother Mike Holmes ’83, the 1982-83 Corps Commander, who brought him to Texas A&M. “Before I started my freshman year, he gave me a book entitled The Corps at Aggieland and wrote in it, ‘Give your all to Texas A&M and the Corps, and you will reap a great harvest.’ I did, and I have,” he said.

Holmes has invested much in his profession as well, earning the Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives in 2002. He began his career in association management with the Southwest Meat Association in 1991 after three years with Granada Foods in Houston. In 1998, he relocated to Virginia to join NAMP as vice president and director of regulatory and legislative affairs and assumed the top position of that organization in 2001.

Holmes attributes much of his own career success to contacts made through the Aggie Network and considers his new role the opportunity of a lifetime. He looks forward to working with The Association staff to help former students around the globe tap into this valuable resource.

Porter Garner ’79, The Association’s Executive Director, cited Holmes’ passion for Texas A&M, his proven track record of positive customer relationships, and his extensive association management background as key factors in his joining The Association staff. “Marty is an outstanding representative of Texas A&M and is a strong addition to The Association team,” he said.

Marty and his wife, Deanne, are excited to be back in Texas and look forward to raising their sons, Wesley ’20 and Mason ’23, in the heart of Aggieland.
