Texas Clipper Makes Its Last Voyage
The Texas Clipper, once a World War II transport vessel and training ship for Texas A&M University at Galveston, is now being taken south through the Gulf of Mexico to be converted into a sunken artificial reef. The ship was acquired by the Galveston campus in 1965 and was instrumental in training thousands of people. The Texas Clipper is scheduled for scuttling in the early part of next year, not far from Padre Island, Texas. Within a year of the sinking, it is anticipated that the ship will develop a diverse marine habitat, attracting a variety of aquatic life and creating a world-class diving destination. In addition, the victory secured a No. 1 seed for the Aggies at next month's Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio.
