Depart at your leisure |
Howdy, Sul Ross Ags!
Well, it is official. I think that we all knew it, but we still hoped it wouldn’t happen. The most exciting football player in A&M history is moving on and he will take a little bit of each of us with him. We will never forget Johnny Football. As we meet together in early March, spring training will probably have begun and won’t it be fun to slip over to the practice field and see the “new look” Aggies as they go to the next phase of Aggie football? While Coach Sumlin will be too involved to speak to our Reunion, we anticipate that AD Eric Hyman will be able to bring us up to date on what we can expect next fall. This Sul Ross Group Reunion will be our most exciting ever - don’t miss it!
The Headquarters Hotel for the Reunion is the College Station Hilton. Please note the deadline for registering on the enclosed registration form. It will be to your advantage to register as soon as possible. Remember that you can always cancel if something unforeseen arises. Please pay attention to The Association’s cancellation policy as well as the hotel’s policy.
While the registration form for the Reunion activities is included, we do encourage everyone to register online. Check-in time with The Association of Former Students staff will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, the 3rd. You can find out at that time the location of the hospitality room and dinner for your particular Class at the registration area. In order to qualify for an individual Class Dinner, a Class must have at least 40 pre-registered attendees. If your Class does not qualify for a separate dinner, you will still be able to sit together as a Class at the Cluster Dinner
Our ladies are welcome to attend all functions. However, while Tuesday’s business meeting is going on, they have the option of being entertained at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center.
Sul Ross Group members have done so much for the school we love, and the Sul Ross Group Board appreciates this more than you know. In an effort to continue giving back to our beloved university, the Sul Ross Group Board has agreed on a new goal over the next three years - to raise eight more $25,000 scholarships for the Corps.
As you will remember, we, as a group, committed to raise $200,000 in three years to fund a pillar for the renovated MSC Flag Room. In 2013, we fulfilled this commitment thanks to you all.
After several meetings with the Commandant, his needs are clear and our help is required to make the Corps better than ever. In the Commandant’s efforts to grow the size of the Corps substantially over the next few years, he is constantly in need of scholarships to help these great students with their education. Scholarships are vital in recruiting for the Corps. We hope that you will consider giving to this scholarship and that you will take the time to visit with a few of these outstanding cadets who will be in attendance.
We are planning for an outstanding Reunion turnout. Getting to visit and to know each other better will make this a very interesting and rewarding time.
E.R. "Ridley" Briggs '54
President, Sul Ross Group
