Class of '66 Mini-Reunion

August 17-20, 2014
Fredericksburg, TX

The plans are now in place for our Mini Reunion in Fredericksburg. Many of you have already made room reservations at the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites. Those of you who have not done this, don’t wait another day because we want you to be there! The basic plan is to come to Fredericksburg to visit with good friends! We’ve planned a few activities, which are all optional, but are available if you want to participate. Again, the basic plan is to do what we want to and when we want to do it. To accomplish this, there will be a hospitality building (not just a room at the hotel) that will be open all day for folks who want to just sit and visit! We'll see you in Fredericksburg!

Reunion Accommodations

A block of rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, for the Class of '66 Fall Mini Reunion. Schedule of Events

Sunday, August 17
• Arrive in Fredericksburg

• 4 p.m. (maybe earlier) - Hospitality Room will open - Cypress Room at the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites
We will have exclusive use of the Cypress Room for our hospitality area throughout our stay!

• 6-8 p.m. - “Build Your Own Sandwich” Buffet

The Cypress Room will be open all evening for folks to visit. For those of you who don’t want to dress up and go out to dinner, a “build your own sandwich” buffet will be available. Of course, if some of you want to go out and enjoy one of Fredericksburg’s outstanding restaurants, you are welcome to do so and you can come visit (and have refreshments) before you go out and return afterwards for more visiting and “talking smart.” Who knows, some of us might stay up until 10 o’clock!

Monday, August 18
• 8:30 a.m. - Presentation and National Museum of the Pacific War Tour - Cypress Room
Roy May (our Classmate, not his son) will make a brief presentation covering what led up to the Pacific War with Japan. Most of you remember that Roy majored in history. Some of you may know that he also taught at West Point, so he knows what he’s talking about. After Roy’s presentation, for those of you who want to participate in the museum tour, the group will either walk (about a block) or drive to the museum for the tour. We are to arrive at the Nimitz Museum between 9:15 and 9:30 that morning. By the way, the tickets for the museum tour are good for two days and allow access to any of the three museums in the Nimitz complex.

• 1:30-5:30 p.m. Texas Wine Tour
A Texas Wine Tour is the premiere way to visit Texas wineries and enjoy Texas wines in style and luxury. To begin this event, a limousine coach will pick us up at the hotel. The tour will include visits to three Hill Country wineries where a personalized wine tasting will take place at each winery.

• Monday for lunch and dinner, folks will be on their own

Tuesday, August 19
• Early (TBD) – Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Golf Course
The website says that Hill Country golf has a special new Lady – the Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course. Thanks to nearly $2 million in renovations, it’s been transformed into one of the finest municipal courses in Texas. The course has been lengthened to a 6,686 yard, Par 71 design. The fairways have been carefully sculpted to reward good shot placement. Greens are firm and fast. The course has forty-six bunkers and water on ten of the eighteen holes.

Driving time from the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites to the golf course is less than ten minutes; transportation is not going to be provided. The plan is to start early! The Golf Club will plan a “mini” tournament if there are enough golfers, or if there are only two or three foursomes that have early tee times. There will be golf carts available!

• The plan for Tuesday is for a free day to explore Fredericksburg on your own. For those who do not opt to golf, this is a “do as you please” day. The hospitality area will be open all day and there is plenty to do in Fredericksburg!

• 6:30 p.m. - Class of ’66 Dinner - Baron’s Creek Conference Center
We can start gathering for a glass of wine at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Delicious Details is catering our dinner – beef tenderloin with sauce de vin and salmon, followed by an assortment of homemade pies. (Does this remind you of the meals we were served in Duncan or Sbisa???)

Wednesday, August 20
All good things must come to an end as we head home!

How to Register
Nardie has volunteered Lynda Vine to make the arrangements and take care of registrations for our Mini Reunion. So everything needs to be sent to her and your checks need to be made out to her. The Association is doing the emails for us, but we decided that we (that is Lynda) can take care of all the details!

Because counts need to be given for the meal functions, Lynda needs to get your registration no later than Monday, August 11. After that, refunds cannot be guaranteed for the meals, but can for the museum tour, wine tour and golf.

Make your check payable to Lynda Vine and mail them to her at 6106 Vance Jackson #2, San Antonio, Texas 78230.

If you have questions or need more information, Nardie says that it is best to call Lynda who can be reached at (210) 827-6463 or by email at lyndapvine@gmail.com.
