Howdy, Class of '78!

’78 - AIN’T IT GREAT! - It’s almost time for our Class of ’78 35 Year Reunion in Aggieland! Yes, October 11–13, we’ll gather again for a weekend of reminiscing, story-telling, laughing, a little two-stepping and boot-scooting, sharing some good eats and cold beverages AND watching our Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football Team BTHO the Rebels of Ole Miss! And yes, an away game Reunion brings some changes to the experience – but your Class Agents think you’ll be pleased with the new format. You’ll actually get to watch the Aggie game on the huge Huddleston Video Wall in the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center with air-conditioning and a cash bar, more face-time for visiting with Classmates, less traffic, better parking, and less expensive hotels. So if you haven’t already done so, register online at www.AggieNetwork.com/Reunions or return the attached form and send it The Association of Former Students. The Reunion won’t be complete if YOU’RE not there! Gig ’em and BTHO Ole Miss!

Your ’78 Class Agents,
Joan, Troby, Mary Jo, Terry and Russell

Bryan Municipal Golf Course (formerly Bryan Municipal Golf Course), located at 206 W. Villa Maria Rd. & S. College Ave. in Bryan. Check-In begins at 8:00 a.m. with coffee, juice (and more coffee!) and kolaches (and more coffee!) included. Prizes, awards and the continued laughs will follow at the tournament’s conclusion.  Have no fear! There WILL be beverage carts making the rounds during the tournament!

If you want to play in a specific foursome, please indicate your designated team members on the attached Reunion Registration form. Note: All players must have their own bag and set of clubs. Dress code policy: appropriate golf attire and shirts with sleeves much be worn at all times, along with soft spikes (no metal spikes are allowed).

Attire

Your Reunion is going to be a fun, casual affair. All Classmates are encouraged to wear their Aggie maroon on Saturday. As far as the weather, it could be hot or cold, dry or rainy—remember, it’s early October in Aggieland!  So check the Weather Channel before you leave home, pack accordingly, and then still consider bringing the opposite of what they predicted!

Transportation/Maps/Parking

Transportation to all events is on your own. There will not be shuttle service to/from the Hilton. For parking and/or campus maps, visit the Transportation Services website: transport.tamu.edu. For Friday night, you can park at the College Station Hilton. For Saturday, you can park in the lot at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center.

Class Agents

Class Agents serve as a liaison between their Class and The Association. This is the perfect opportunity to get involved as a former student, stay connected to the university and help lead your Class in supporting A&M. Elections are held in conjunction with your Reunions, so now is your chance!

Teams consist of two to five members of your Class and serve a five-year term. As a Class Agent you will serve on The Association of Former Students’ Leadership Council, which meets twice a year. The Association of Former Students provides orientation and resources to aid you in this role. Class Agents are responsible for keeping the Class informed through Newsletters, web sites and emails, planning Class events and providing annual fund information to former students.

Class Agent elections will be held at your Reunion. Class Agent teams will be allowed to speak during the business meeting at the Reunion, but the actual election will take place online after the Reunion to allow those not in attendance a chance to vote.

For more information go to http://tx.ag/ClassAgent, email Class@AggieNetwork.com or call (800) 633-7514.  All nominations must be received by the Reunion Registration Deadline.

Weekend Selection Information

Your Reunion is on an away game weekend. Class Agents are responsible for selecting Reunion dates on behalf of their respective Classes. Since 2009, several Classes have held successful Reunions on away game weekends. Away game Reunions are nice because you won’t be dealing with problems like parking, traffic, exorbitant hotel costs, expensive football tickets or bad seats in bad weather. A typical couple usually pays around $1,000 to attend a Reunion on a home football game when you factor in all the costs. Another determining factor of having the Reunion on this weekend was that a block of football tickets for a Reunion during a conference home game is no longer an option now that we are in the SEC. Reunion feedback shows that participants want more “face time” in a quieter, relaxed atmosphere. This is why your Class Agents elected to choose this date for your Reunion in the fall. The renovated Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center has a 49 panel video wall that offers a great opportunity to watch the game. The big advantage to this approach is that the cost is cut in half with the opportunity to maximize the face time with your Classmates, and you get 50 yard line seats for the football game. Hotel room rates are reasonable on away games and in the event you don’t get your reservation in for the Reunion in time, you aren’t staying in Caldwell. You also have a more relaxed chance to see the campus without all the craziness of a home football game.

Where is Waldo with our Traditional '78 Dom Perignon?!

Just a reminder to our lucky Classmate who currently holds the Right of Possession to our most-prized Reunion tradition: Class of '78's Box and Bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne. Please remember to bring the Box and Bottle with you to the 35 Year Reunion so that we can award the Rights of Possession to our deserving Classmate for the next five years until our 40 Year Reunion!

Your Donations Help Make the Reunion Even Better!

The more the merrier! Attendees AND cash donations, that is! So that we can provide a few more amenities (i.e., Hospitality Room snacks & cold beverages, entertainment, etc.), we invite Classmates to consider adding a generous contribution of any denomination to the ’78 Ain’t It Great!” Reunion Fund.

No amount is too small OR too large! $10, $20, $100, $200 or more! Feel free to make your donation payable to the “Class of ’78 Fund” and mail to Troby Parrish, 4516 Lovers Lane, Dallas, TX 75225.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
