Howdy Ags!

Information for the Sul Ross Group Reunion, March 7-9, 2011, is here. Don’t miss out on the exciting happenings at our University – almost too much to comprehend.  If you have not already done so, get your hotel reservations in as the hotels are filling up.  We look forward to the induction of the Class of 1956 into the Sul Ross Group.

Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, with a reception and a chance to reconnect with Classmates and friends.  Upon your arrival, you will want to make sure to locate the hospitality room for your Class, as that should be a good place to get together with Classmates and friends.  Monday night is dedicated to Class dinners.  Remember, due to space limitations, a Class needs at least 30 pre-registered attendees to qualify for an individual Class Dinner.  If your Class doesn’t qualify, you will still be able to sit together as a Class at the Cluster dinner.

On Tuesday, we will be holding the annual Business Meeting with the induction of the Class of 1956 and the election of the new officers for 2011.  Don Powell ’56 will give a history of the Class of 1956.  We will also receive a report on the Corps of Cadets from the Office of the Commandant’s Chief of Staff, Col Jake Betty ’73 and a report on the Memorial Student Center Renovation from the current MSC President, Collin Laden ’10.  The new Commandant, BG Joe Ramirez ’79, is returning from the AMCSUS Conference on March 8 and hopes to join us at the farewell breakfast Wednesday morning to mix and mingle and introduce himself to the group.

During the annual Business Meeting, the ladies will be entertained at a reception held at the President’s House on campus.  The Business Meeting will be followed by a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Jim Olson, a former CIA agent and current Director of the Certificate in Advanced International Affairs Program at the Bush School. Tuesday afternoon has been left open for you to visit with your respective departments and students or relax in your hospitality rooms.
Tuesday night will be the annual Dinner and Dance.  Dr. R. Bowen Loftin ’71, Texas A&M University President, will address us on the State of the University followed by dancing as long as we can hold out, to the music of the Aggieland Orchestra.

The Wednesday morning breakfast will feature Texas Aggie Foorball Coach Mike Sherman and the prospects for Texas A&M football in 2011.  We will also hear comments from the Corps Commander, Cadet David
Keim ’11and Student Body President Jacob Robinson ’11. We will close with a Fightin’ Texas Aggie yell practice.

We are planning a fun three days, so plan on being with us to enjoy the Reunion.  See you there!

Honor Aggie Leaders With a Pillar in the MSC

Help Texas A&M University continue its 134-year tradition of training leaders by supporting the renovation of the MSC, a student union dedicated to Aggies who died serving their country.  The MSC is the campus living room and a place all students and former students call home. Preserving the identity of the Memorial Student Center has been the number one priority of the new renovation. As construction commenced in the summer of 2009, Texas A&M set out with the goal to build a more welcoming space for all Aggies, build a facility that is adequate for the 1,500 student leaders who run extraordinary MSC leadership organizations, and to have a building that honors the spirit of Aggies who have so valiantly sacrificed their lives.

The Texas A&M Foundation is leading a campaign on behalf of the University to raise $20 million through the naming of rooms, pillars, and spaces within the MSC. Although most of the  current student body will not have benefit of the renovated MSC for three of their four years on campus, they voted in 2008 to support the MSC renovation project by voting to more than double the student center fee to $130 per year to fund $82 million of the three-year, $100 million-plus project.  As part of this campaign, former students and friends of Texas A&M are invited to fund more than 150 pillars throughout the refurbished building.

The Sul Ross Group has chosen to contribute to the project with the naming of a Flag Room Pillar. Only 16 of these pillars are housed in the revered Flag Room, giving our gift a place of honor in the renovation project and providing us with greater recognition on campus.  That’s where you come in: You can help us show the spirit of the Sul Ross Group by contributing to the Sul Ross Group Flag Room Pillar. We are asking you to pledge $600 dollars or $200 a year for three years toward our $200,000 goal. This is our opportunity to show all Aggies that the Sul Ross Group supports the MSC renovation project. Please know that your contribution, along with those of past, current, and future Aggies, will help Texas A&M keep the integrity of its beloved Memorial Student Center. To contribute to our pillar, please fill out the pledge card or contact Cindy Munson ’99 at c-munson@tamu.edu or (979) 458-1689.

Cancellation Policy

The Association of Former Students has a fairly flexible cancellation policy.
