Charlie Winter, age 83, of San Antonio, died on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at home, surrounded by his family and friends. In 1953, he returned to Texas from Germany, and settled in San Antonio. There, he met Haidee Gerhardt. For 37 years they lived on Belvidere Drive in Olmos Park, where they raised their two children. Charlie worked for New England Life Insurance Company for forty years, and was a Certified Life Underwriter.

Charlie served on the vestry of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church and also of Saint David's Episcopal Church. Charlie and Haidee loved to travel, and in recent years especially enjoyed visiting their friends in England. Since 2003, Charlie and Haidee's home away from home has been in Port Aransas. In addition to traveling, Charlie loved to read, cook, yell for the Aggies, and play golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
