President Gates Issues Memo Regarding Budget
Colleagues: The legislative session is over and, compared to other states, higher education in Texas has been treated rather well. More than 40 other states are facing serious budget deficit problems. In some, state funding for higher education is being slashed, and both academic programs and tuition are being affected dramatically. That has not happened here. New Student Group Wins Recognition
The Aggie Leadership Invitational is sponsored by The Association of Former Students and Class Councils and recognizes student leaders and organizations for outstanding achievement. During the spring 2003 invitational, a group called Ags of OAK (Open Acts of Kindness) was awarded the "New Committee Award." A&M Wins Equestrian National Championship
Good riding, good fortune, and a first-year Aggie senior from Hummelstown, Pa., wore just the right shade of maroon and white on Sunday to enable the Texas A&M western equestrian team to successfully defend its team national championship. Archery Team Defends National Title; Zorn Breaks World Record at Outdoor Nationals

Texas A&M Hosted 2003 Texas 4-H Roundup
Each June, 3,000 youth and their adult leaders travel to Texas A&M University to participate in the Texas 4-H Roundup. This annual state competition brings together 4-H’ers who have won local and regional contests in their districts. Read more at http://rev.tamu.edu/stories/03/053003-4.html.

Challenge Exposes MBA Students to Technology Commercialization
It’s not uncommon for business schools to sponsor case competitions for first year MBA students. But Mays Business School's MBA Technology Transfer Challenge took a different approach. The weeklong challenge sparked students’ entrepreneurial curiosity, while generating an understanding of how a technology’s commercial viability is evaluated. Coach’s Night Kicks Off in Austin
2003 Coach’s Nights had a successful kick off on Tuesday, June 10th at The Capital City A&M Club in Austin. The event had close to 2,500 in attendance. The annual Coach’s Night/Fish Fry is the largest fundraising event for Aggies in Austin. Some notable Aggies in attendance were: Governor Rick Perry ’72, Austin Mayor Will Wynn ’84, Rep. Dan Gattis ’90, Regent Phil Adams ’70, Buzz Miller ’76, 2003 President of The Association of Former Students, Tommie Lohman ’59, 12th Man Foundation President, Aggie Yell Leaders, and Reveille.
