Aggie Marines' Remains Return from Vietnam
After more than three decades, the remains of Marine Capt. Carl E. Long '66 and Marine 2nd Lt. Donald John Matocha '67 have been identified in Vietnam. Long died Dec. 20, 1969, as a result of injuries sustained in a CV-10 aircraft crash in the Vung Tar Republic, while Matocha was killed April 5, 1968, in a firefight on Dong Ma Mountain in what was then the Republic of South Vietnam. Long, whose Aggie Ring proved to be an identifying factor in returning him home to his family, will be buried Thurs., Sept. 16, at Arlington National Cemetery. Matocha, who will be escorted home by his nephew, a major in the USMC, will be buried Sat., Sept. 18, in Smithville, Texas, following a 10 a.m. service at the Smithville Recreation Center, at which a section has been reserved for his Classmates. Association Establishes Ejaz Family Assistance Fund
On July 31, the family of Texas A&M graduate student Saquib Ejaz '01 was injured in a fire at University Apartments. Ejaz' wife, daughter and parents (who were visiting from Bangladesh) all sustained severe burns. His daughter later succumbed to her injuries and passed away. While Saquib's wife was upgraded to fair condition earlier this week, his parents remain in critical condition. If you would like to contribute to an assistance fund established by The Association of Former Students to help defray the family's medical and related expenses, please send your check to The Association of Former Students, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, TX 77840. Checks should be made payable to "The Association of Former Students," with the name of the fund (Assistance Fund for the Saquib Ejaz Family) noted on the memo line. Contributions also can be made online at www.AggieNetwork.com/GiveBack/Assistance_Fund.aspx.
