Experience the second-largest country in the world, one rich in culture, natural beauty and city life. Begin in Toronto with a private reception and dinner at the Royal Ontario Museum. Toronto sightseeing includes a visit to the CN Tower and the Distillery District, a former industrial area that has been transformed into a pedestrian zone of cafés, restaurants, and shops – and frequently serves as a movie set. Leaving the city behind, travel to Niagara Falls where you’ll board the Maid of the Mist for an unforgettable ride. To “warm up”, visit a vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake for an ice wine tasting before the return to Toronto.
En route to Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, cruise the Thousand Islands past quaint summer homes and opulent mansions. See the city’s grand 19th-century government buildings and take a guided tour of the Museum of Civilization. Spend two nights at a centrally located hotel, from which to explore on your own.
Head to Montreal; a retired Mountie will join the group to speak about the unique role played by the national police force (the Royal Canadian Mounted Police). A walking tour of Old Montreal reveals its similarities to Old World Europe. Spend an afternoon exploring as you wish before meeting up for dinner.
In the way to Quebec City, follow the St. Lawrence River to Trois Rivières for a tasting at a traditional Quebec sugar shack. Lunch at Montmorency Falls and then have time to enjoy your accommodations at an iconic hotel in French Canada, overlooking the St. Lawrence. Sightsee in Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and at the star-shaped Citadelle, home of the prestigious French-speaking regiment of the Canadian Forces and built in anticipation of renewed American attacks after the War of 1812. After an afternoon at leisure, join us for a farewell dinner.
