Marvin Raymond Dietel, Jr.

Marvin Raymond Dietel, Jr., 64 passed away at his home in Forney, TX on Thursday, December 29, 2011 surrounded by his loved ones. Marvin was born in Dallas, TX on February 3, 1947 to Marvin and Julia (Roberts) Dietel both of whom passed away when Marvin was a child; he was raised by his grandmother Olga (Baus) Dietel. A loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Marvin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Marvin is survived by his wife and best friend, Wanda (Gee) Dietel, daughter Kelli Dietel of Grapevine, TX; son Chris Dietel & wife Andrea (Gowen) Dietel of Trimble, MO; step-son Warren Purifoy & wife Kirsty (Hinds) Purifoy, grandchildren Sasha & Niko Purifoy of Dallas, TX; brother Carl Dietel & wife Ruby Dietel of Colleyville, TX, sister Elinor (Lin) Lewis of Durango, CO and twin-sister, Marilyn Coe of Spring, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marvin graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School Dallas, TX 1965, from Texas A&M University 1969 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1971 from Southern Methodist University. Upon graduating from Texas A&M, Marvin was employed at Texas Instruments in Dallas and later Morton Salt in Grand Saline, TX. While at Morton Salt, Marvin was on the mine rescue team which won numerous national contests and awards for the rescue team’s exemplary performance and training. Marvin was then employed at Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Tyco Electronics all at the same location 3000 Skyline Blvd. Mesquite, TX as Power Systems Plant & Factory Electrical Engineer. Marvin was recognized in 1991 for distinguished accomplishments in the category of engineering excellence when awarded the Dallas Engineering Award of Excellence by a committee of his peers. Marvin received his second master’s degree in Engineering Management from the National Technological University 1992. Marvin retired from Lucent Technologies in April 2002 after 25 years of service. As a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer, Marvin did some consulting work after retirement but mostly just enjoyed life and did not miss the corporate world he worked in for so many years.

Marvin was active in the Kaufman County Master Gardener’s Association, a member and agent for the Sons of Hermann, Dallas Lodge 22; The Dallas Down River Canoe Club; and many various other committees and organizations. Marvin loved dancing and took dance lessons often with his wife, Wanda. An avid gardener, world-wide traveler and voracious reader who found great comfort in reading the Bible and listening to J. Vernon McGee during his two year battle with colon cancer. Marvin was the best of the best to the very end.
